Amari Cooper: Raiders Weren't Using Me The Best Way

Dec 2, 2018 8:39 PM

Amari Cooper is thrilled to be with the Dallas Cowboys, who traded a first-round pick to the Oakland Raiders for the wide receiver earlier this season.

Cooper said he "wasn't really happy in Oakland" and that the Cowboys are using him much more prolifically than the Raiders did.

"I looked at it totally different than most people looked at it," Cooper said. "[The Raiders] basically said, 'We could get a guy, who's going to contribute better than he will, in the first round.' And I didn't know how to feel about that.

"I just always felt like I wasn't really being used how I felt like I would have used me if I was the coach. So I looked at it from that perspective, not from the perspective that, 'Oh, they don't think I'm good enough' or I'm not good enough.

"I never had those questions in my mind. At all."

Cooper has been targeted on 24.4 percent of his routes with the Cowboys. The number was just 15.4 percent with the Raiders.

Mitchell Trubisky Wants To Slide Better, But Will Remain Aggressive

Nov 30, 2018 8:32 AM

Mitchell Trubisky is expected to miss a second game with a right shoulder injury suffered on a hit by Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith at the end of a run in Week 11.

The Chicago Bears quarterback hasn't thrown at practice since the injury.

Trubisky said he will "continue to work on my slides and make sure they're cleaner," but that he is not going to let the injury keep him from making plays with his feet when the situation calls for it.

"I would say I've done a real good job of getting yardage for this team, creating positive plays and causing trouble for the defenses while also protecting myself," Trubisky said. "Nothing's going to change when I get back. I'm going to continue to stay aggressive and play ball the way I know how."

Randall Cobb: Aaron Rodgers 'Ready To Light Everybody Up'

Nov 30, 2018 8:27 AM

Randall Cobb is ready to return to the Green Bay Packers after missing six of the team's last eight games due to a hamstring injury.

Cobb has also heard all of the criticism heaped on Aaron Rodgers this year and is ready to watch the quarterback go to work.

"I'm excited to get back out there because I know with all the noise that's been said over the past week about him [Rodgers], he's getting ready to light everybody up this week," Cobb said. "It's going to be a lot of fun and I look forward to helping him out."

Odell Beckham Wants To Reach 2,000 Receiving Yards

Nov 30, 2018 3:24 PM

Odell Beckham, Jr. reached the 1,000-yard mark last Sunday for the fourth time in his five-year career.

Beckham has 74 receptions for 1,017 yards and five touchdowns in 11 games.

"Like I said, it's not a down year. My numbers are still my numbers," said Beckham, who isn't impressed with his numbers. "I guess that is where my mindset is different than everybody else. I expect way higher of myself.

"I expect ... I'm trying to reach 2,000 yards. I'm trying to go for 20 TDs. One-hundred receptions is tatted on me. Those are goals that hopefully in my career and future, along with championships and winning, because numbers don't mean anything without winning. You can go home with 300 yards in a game with an L -- it's not going to feel good.

"So it's really all about winning, and I just feel like I could've had a better year so far but this is where I'm at. You just have to deal with that, keep pushing to keep getting better day by day, work at your craft. That is all I can really do."

No player has ever recorded 2,000 receiving yards in a single season. Calvin Johnson holds the NFL record with 1,964 yards, set in 2012.

Mitchell Trubisky Won't Play In Week 13

Nov 29, 2018 8:31 AM

The Chicago Bears won't have Mitchell Trubisky for the second consecutive game.

Trubisky is not expected to face the New York Giants in Week 13, according to sources.

The quarterback missed Chicago's Thanksgiving win over the Detroit Lions with a right shoulder injury. Chase Daniel started and posted 230 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the victory.

"He's doing well," Matt Nagy said of Trubisky this week. "He's improving each day, which is important. He's a tough kid, you know and sometimes when you get in these type of situations, you need to make sure that he understands that we need to do what's best not only for him but for the team as well. He wants to be out there, but we need to just make sure we're doing the right thing and that he's communicating to us how he feels and we're getting feedback from our training staff and that we put it all together and do the right thing with him."

Carlos Hyde Frustrated With Lack Of Touches

Nov 28, 2018 9:07 AM

Carlos Hyde is frustrated with a lack of touches since coming over to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Hyde has 27 total touches in four games with the Jaguars. In six games with the Cleveland Browns, he averaged 20 touches.

"I went from starter [Cleveland] to not getting the ball at all, down to third string," Hyde said. "Yes, it's frustrating but I have to be patient for my time to come back around. When it comes, I'll be ready."

Hyde could see an uptick in Week 13 with Leonard Fournette suspended against the Indianapolis Colts.

Adam Thielen Has Added $3.6M To Contract Through Incentives

Nov 28, 2018 9:04 AM

Adam Thielen is severely underpaid, but his production with the Minnesota Vikings has allowed him to make more money through incentives and escalators.

Thielen leads the NFL with 93 catches, ranks second with 1,138 receiving yards and is tied for fifth with eighth touchdowns. His contract ranks 49th at his position.

He has already triggered a $600,000 bonus by surpassing 80 catches for the season and can earn another $500,000 if he is selected to his second Pro Bowl. He bumped his 2018 salary from $2.85 to $3.85 million by surpassing 90 catches last year, and has already boosted his 2019 salary from $3.85 to $5.85 million by triggering a pair of $1 million salary escalators for 90-catch seasons in 2017 and 2018. He could also nudge his 2020 salary from $5.35 to $8.35 million if he adds another 90-catch season next year.

In total, Thielen has already added $3.6 million in incentives and escalators to the four-year, $19.246 million contract he signed before the 2017 season.

Zach Ertz On Pace To Break Tight End Catch Mark

Nov 28, 2018 8:58 AM

Zach Ertz has 84 catches for 895 yards this season, putting him on pace for a historic season.

The record for catches in a season by a tight end is held by Jason Witten. He hauled in 110 passes in 2012, but Ertz is on pace for 122 catches for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Ertz is also on pace for 1,300 yards. No tight end has surpassed that yardage total and caught 100 passes in NFL history.
